Reading fluently with good comprehension requires many skills to occur efficiently and simultaneously. Skilled readers need to have strong phonological awareness skills (the ability to identify, segment, delete and blend sounds in words) and good sight word knowledge (sight words are words that can’t be sounded out as they are irregular and must be learnt).
